How CPAP Machines Work?

CPAP machines collect the room air, which is filtered and pressurised to be pumped through a tube into the mask worn by the individual undergoing CPAP therapy. The air is supplied continuously when the machine is in use, and that is why it is known as a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. It reduces pauses in breathing while sleeping by ensuring the tongue and soft palate do not shift too far into the airway. The steady flow of air keeps the airways open and eliminates interruptions that affect sleep quality. The treatment requires using the machine daily while sleeping to get the best results. Different types of CPAP machines can be used for the therapy, depending on the convenience of the person using it. The different types can be identified by their different masks. These include a nasal mask, full mask and nasal pillow mask.

Benefits of CPAP Therapy

CPAP therapy helps treat obstructive sleep apnea and boosts sleep quality. It has several other benefits, including:

Reduced Snoring

CPAP therapy can alleviate snoring by keeping the upper airway open while the person is sleeping.

Energy-Filled Days

Sleep apnea can affect daytime alertness because of disturbed sleep at night. CPAP therapy eliminates this problem.

Improved Health

It improves the overall health of people suffering from sleep apnea by reducing blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Mental Wellness

CPAP therapy can enhance mental health by improving mood and reducing anxiety and stress caused due to obstructive sleep apnea.

What Is CPAP Therapy?

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy utilises a machine to deliver air pressure to patients who struggle to breathe normally while sleeping at night. The CPAP machine is connected to the patient's mask, opening the airway and stopping the throat from collapsing.

CPAP is a simple machine that pumps air through a mask you wear at night. It's designed to hold your airway open while you are asleep. It sends air at pressure into your upper airway to stop it from collapsing or narrowing. Your sleep clinic or the machine itself will set the pressure for you.

CPAP is the most effective treatment if you have Moderate to Severe OSA. If you have Mild OSA, CPAP is only recommended if your symptoms affect your quality of life or other treatment options have not worked.
